DEVELOPMENT COST CHARGES (DCCs)
EFFECTIVE 2022-DEC-07
DCCs ARE COLLECTED AT:
-
Residential subdivision at final approval
-
Mobile home parks and campgrounds prior to building permit (for servicing) issue
-
For construction of (or additions to) multi-family, commercial, institutional or industrial buildings prior to
building permit issue
-
For conversion of existing buildings to a new and higher use category
DCCs ARE NOT PAYABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING:
-
Where the value of work authorized under the building permit totals $50,000.00 or less
-
Buildings for the purpose of worship
-
Where an interior renovation will not add to the City's capital cost burden

Gross Floor Area
** Drainage DCCs will be charged per m2 of lot coverage (m2 of first floor)
*** Row-housing lot or a residential lot < 370m2
+ Consult with staff regarding the RDN DCC boundary
Additional Information

Not all areas of Nanaimo are subject to all DCC categories. Please check with staff for
specifics.

Not-for-profit rental housing is eligible for a 50% reduction in DCCs.

RDN Sanitary Rates are set by RDN Bylaw 1547 - Southern Wastewater Treatment - for
DCC areas exempt from these rates go to: https://www.rdn.bc.ca/development-cost-charges
