If you operate a business in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, you may require a business licence. The Municipality requires certain businesses to be licensed to ensure compliance with municipal by-laws and promote fairness and consistency among business owners.

## Application Requirements
All Municipal Business Licence applications must include:
* **Business Registration Documentation**
+ Ontario Business Name Registration and/or Articles of Incorporation (if applicable)
+ Register or obtain documents at: https://www.ontario.ca/page/ontario-business-registry
* **Complete Application Package**
+ Application form
+ Government-issued photo identification
+ Applicable licence fee

## After you Apply
Once your application is submitted:
* The Licensing Department will circulate it to required municipal departments (e.g., Building, Zoning, Fire, Health, Police).
* Inspections of the business premises may be scheduled, if required.
⚠ **Important:**
Submitting an application does **not** guarantee approval.
* Licences are issued only after all required approvals are received
* Missing documentation may delay processing

## Licence Validity and Renewal
Most business licences are valid for **one year from the date of issue**.
* Exceptions:
+ **Mobile Food Premises:** Renew annually in **May**
+ **Seasonal Housing Licences:** Renew annually in **March**
Additional information:
* Fees are not prorated.
* Renewal notices are mailed approximately **45 days prior to expiry**.
* Licence holders are responsible for ensuring their licence remains valid, even if a reminder is not received.
**Important Notes**
* Municipal business licences are **non-transferable**between owners or locations.
