# Recycling, Diversion, and Waste ## Recycling & Waste Collection Changes Beginning the week of July 7, 2026, the Township of Chatsworth will transition to a new cart-based recycling and waste collection system for curbside collection. As part of this program, each household will receive two wheeled collection carts for Recycling and for Waste. The new system is designed to improve collection efficiency, increase waste diversion, and support long-term environmental sustainability within the Township. ### **What Residents Need to Know** * July 7 Former Holland Waste & Recycling pickup will begin with bin collection. * July 14 Former Sullivan & Village of Chatsworth Waste & Recycling pickup will begin with bin collection. * Bag Tags are no longer needed. Refunds will be issued for unused bag tags. Visit the Township Office during regular business hours. * Green Bin is for waste. * Blue Bin is for recycling. * Costs for the waste collection will be funded through the municipal tax levy. * No extra bins will be provided for the same household. * To request a smaller recycling bin please contact Circular Materials * Don't place extra garbage beside the bins as it won't get collected. * Garbage and recycling carts must be placed on the following roadside: + Township Roads - Mailbox side + Provincial, County, and Townline Roads - End of driveway ![](https://chatsworth.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Chatsworth_Page_1-1024x791.jpg) ![](https://chatsworth.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Chatsworth_Page_2-1024x791.jpg) ### **Frequently Asked Questions** * Place your carts so the wheels face your home, and the lid opens toward the road. * Keep carts at least 3 feet away from fences, vehicles, or other obstacles. * Place carts on a flat surface, clear of snow and ice. * For rural one-way roads, place carts on the designated collection side of the road. * Have your carts at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. * Garbage and recycling carts must be placed on the following roadside: + Township Roads - Mailbox side + Provincial, County, and Townline Roads - End of driveway Check out the graphics below for reference. ![](https://chatsworth.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Cart-Placement-1024x512.png) ![](https://chatsworth.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Cart-Placement-4-1024x576.png) Place your carts at the curb or the end of your driveway on the same side of the road as currently positioned by the set-out time. Clear a flat area and keep carts off snowbanks, out of the road, and away from where snowplows may pass. Leave enough space around each cart so the collection truck can safely access them. Check out the graphic below for reference. ![](https://chatsworth.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Chatsworth-Cart-Additional-Placement-Illustrations_Page_4-1024x791.jpg) Carts are not permitted to be placed on snowbanks and must be cleared of snow. Carts on snowbanks and/or covered in snow may result is a non-collection. Check out the graphic below for reference. ![](https://chatsworth.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Chatsworth-Cart-Additional-Placement-Illustrations_Page_4-1024x791.jpg) If you have a long laneway, you may find it easier to store your carts near the end of your driveway off to the side and within your property, and transfer material into carts as needed throughout the week. This reduces the need to move a full cart down a long driveway on collection morning. On collection day, roll your carts to the designated collection point, ensuring they're clear of snow, vehicles, and other obstacles. If your collection is missed, contact Waste Management (WM) and reference your address. > Phone: 1-800-561-1655 > Email: [email protected] They receive in-time information related to collections to help assist residents faster. ## Curbside Collection Garbage and Recycling are collected every other week by Waste Management (WM) on behalf of the Township. Residents of the former Holland Township (East of Highway 6) will receive pick up on every other Tuesday. Collection for former Sullivan Township and Village of Chatsworth (West of Highway 6) will receive pick up on the alternate Tuesdays. The Township does not guarantee time of pick up by our contractors and therefore, garbage and recycling carts must be at the curb on the day of pick-up by 7:00 a.m. in a clearly visible area. Garbage and recycling must be placed on the following roadside: Township Roads - Mailbox side. Provincial, County and Townline Roads - End of driveway.
