# Short Term Rentals
**Short Term Rentals**The Municipality of East Ferris recently passed a by-law to regulate the use of rural and residential properties for Short Term Rentals. By-law 2022-36 provides rules and regulations around the operation of a Short Term Rental. A License from the Municipality is required to operate all Short Term Rentals.
Short Term Rental By-law 2022-36
All persons in the municipality who wish to operate a Short Term Rental must apply for a License under this by-law. License's are issued by the East Ferris Director of Community Services and are will only be issued to properties that meet the criteria required under the by-law. Starting on July 12th, 2022, any person operating a Short Term Rental not in accordance with the provisions of By-law 2022-36 will be subject to fines under the by-law, in most cases accumulating on a daily basis. Please do not wait to apply for your License as there is a processing time associated with them as well. The application form may be found here:
Short Term Rental Application
Short Term Rentals may only be operated for a period of up to 3 or 5 months within a given year, depending on the type of License which is issued.
**Fire Safety**
Part of the municipality's review of license applications is a review of fire safety concerns and obligations under the Ontario Fire Code. The following checklist has been prepared to assist Short Term Rental owners in reviewing their own property prior to municipal inspection: Checklist
**Public Short Term Rental Directory**When a License is granted, it will be listed here publicly with relevant operational details including the address, property manager contact information, rental capacity, and permitted months of operation.
