# Garbage and Recycling
Household garbage waste is collected weekly and recyclable waste is collected on an alternating weekly schedule for different types of recyclables.
Edwardsburgh Cardinal's recycling program is now managed by Circular Materials, the administrator of the common collection system and a national not-for-profit organization that is committed to building an efficient and effective recycling system in Ontario. ## Garbage collection
We collect regular waste (garbage) weekly through curbside collection.
The Township's curbside collection bylaw requires that garbage bags or containers shall be placed on the street allowance before 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection for that particular street to ensure collection. (Bylaw 2019-64, s 2.6.) HGC Management will not return to streets in order to collect garbage/recycling because it was not placed out on time.
### Regular collection days
You can find which day of the week your household should place your garbage out for collection depending on your location. View a map of collection zones.
* Monday: Areas north of Glen Smail Road and west of County Road 44, including Spencerville
* Tuesday: Areas north of Pittston Road and east of County Road 44, including Ventnor and Shanly
* Wednesday: Areas north of Highway 401, and south of Glen Smail Road and Pittston Road, including Crystal Rock and Brouseville
* Thursday: Village of Cardinal
* Friday: Areas south of Highway 401, except for the Village of Cardinal

### Garbage bag and disposal regulations

#### Township bags
All garbage placed for collection must be in clear, designated Township garbage bags. Learn how to purchase designated bags.
#### Maximum weight and amount
The maximum weight of each bag is 40 lbs. Each household may dispose of up to five bags per week. Please make sure all bags are tied tightly to prevent spills and to protect our waste collectors, and place bags in containers suitable to keep water and animals out.
#### Timing
Place garbage and recycling items curbside no later than 7 a.m. on your collection day. If you are placing your garbage curbside before 5 a.m., please ensure that the waste is in a container suitable to keep water, animals or flies out.
#### Tissues and napkins
Please place all used tissues and napkins in the garbage and never in the green bin, as they can become wind-blown when the collector empties the bin. Do not place waste loosely in garbage containers.
#### Broken Glass
Please do not place broken glass or dishes in garbage bags for curbside collection. Sharp edges can easily poke through bags and injure the collection operator.
If you need to dispose of broken glass or ceramics (such as bowls, drinking glasses, etc.), place it in a cardboard box, tape it shut, clearly label it "Broken Glass," and place it curbside with your garbage.
