How to Find a Leak in Your Home Report a Drinking Water emergency, such as a water main break or service disruption, to the Emergency Water Line by calling 1-866-948-5538. Contact the Township to report non-emergency water issues by emailing us or calling 905-342-2810. Check your water usage devices (toilets, taps, washing machines, etc.) regularly to help reduce the risk of an increased water bills caused by a malfunctioning device. Leaky toilets are often the cause of high water bills and could waste more than 475 litres of water a day. Even the smallest leaks in your house add up to gallons of wasted water and potentially hundreds of dollars per year on your water bill. Check for leaks in your house by trying the dye test: 1. 1. Remove the toilet tank cover and set it aside 2. Remove any 'in-tank' bowl cleaners that colour the water 3. Begin the test with clear water in the tank and bowl 4. Place enough food colouring or instant coffee in the tank's water to get a deep colour (this may stain the tank) 5. Wait 30 minutes. Your toilet is leaking if the dyed water has made its way into the toilet bowl. A proper operating toilet will store water in the tank without water running into the bowl. If the dye test shows the toilet is leaking, contact a licensed plumber to have it repaired. ![](https://media-002-ca.cdn.govstack.com/hamiltontownship-016-ca/media/iydlib1d/credit-card-payment.svg) How to Pay Your Water Bill Find all the information you need about paying your water bill, including bill dates, and how to sign up for or cancel pre-authorized payments. ![](https://media-002-ca.cdn.govstack.com/hamiltontownship-016-ca/media/vy4gapt1/icon_addhome.svg) New Water Accounts Homeowners can set up a water account by completing a Water Service Connection Request.
