The Township of Malahide provides Dog Control Services in accordance with By-law No. 05-71. All dogs must be registered with the Township. Each dog is issued a lifetime tag, with the registration fee paid annually as outlined in the Dog Control By-law.
#### Why License your Dog
* If your dog goes missing, having your dog identified drastically improves your chance of getting them back safely.
* The tag is easy to spot and lets anyone who finds your pet know it belongs to someone.
* Your dog is returned to its home faster and spends less time in the shelter.
* If your dog is loose or involved in an emergency, its identification provides the information needed to contact you.
* It is a requirement to license your dog. If you do not, you are in contravention of the By-law.
#### How to License your Dog
The Township of Malahide dog registrations are valid for one calendar year, and the dog tags issued are permanent. If your dog is registered in our system, the annual registration invoice will be sent in January.
If you are a new dog owner, you can complete a registration form and submit it with payment, and a dog tag will be provided to you.
#### Cat Licences
The Township of Malahide does not issue cat licences.
Residents within the Township of Malahide who wish to operate a kennel must follow the requirements that have been established for the Township.
Dog owners may be permitted to have more than 3 dogs if they are eligible for a Kennel Licence. Generally, a Kennel Licence will only be issued within a rural area, subject to compliance with the applicable Zoning By-law. For further consultation, please reach out to the Development Services Technician at 519-773-5344 | 239 or via email. The Kennel Application can be completed and submitted to the Township Office after pre-consultation of your property address has occurred.
The Township Office coordinates claims under the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program. The program provides financial assistance to owners whose livestock, poultry, or honey bees have been damaged or killed by wildlife.
#### Making an application
To make an application, an owner must:
* Have a valid business registration number (FBRN);
* Have a premises identification number (PID);
* Report the injury or kill within 48 hours to the Township Office;
* Preserve the injury/kill site until the Municipal Investigator has investigated.
Claims for damages under this program are to be reported to one of the Township's Livestock Valuers within 48 hours of discovering the injury/death and are subject to inspection and a report. Please contact the Township at 519-773-5344 or via email.
