# Winter Operations
In the winter, Public Works staff are busy
plowing and sanding the municipal roads. There are a number of things
that you can do in the winter to help us keep things running smoothly and
efficiently.
## Snow on Roadways
Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, it is
illegal to shovel, blow or plow snow out onto or across a roadway. It's also
very dangerous and can cause oncoming vehicles to lose control. Please use
caution when clearing your driveway and always be aware of the traffic around
you.
## Winter Parking
In order to facilitate the process of snow
removal from roadways no person shall park any vehicle on any roadway under the
jurisdiction of the Municipality at any time from November 15 of each year to
April 15th of the following year.
## Protect Your Mailbox
It's your responsibility to keep the area
around your mailbox clear of snow. Most times when mailboxes get damaged,
it's because plowed snow accumulates in front of it, causing increased weight
and pressure against it over the course of the winter. If your mailbox has been
damaged, please contact the Public Works Department so we can arrange an
inspection and a course of action.
## Driving
When approaching a plow, reduce speed, keep
your headlights on low, and stay to the right. If driving behind a plow,
keep a safe distance and remember they may need to back up - If you can't see
the mirrors, they can't see you!
Please see By-law 2018-32 (pdf 522kb) for more information.
Please refer to the Ministry of Transportation website for
information about winter safe driving.
