Do I need a building permit? What does it cost?
In the Municipality of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands, Ontario, building permit rules are set by Building By-Law No. 2023-10 (rescinds By-laws 2012-15 and 98-20), verified 2026-09-25. Permit required for: Construction, demolition, change of use, or occupancy of a partially complete building. Exemptions: No permit is required for structures under 100 square feet; no permit is required for structures under 161 square feet for buildings being used for storage. Permit fees: As set out in Schedule "A"; e.g. New buildings $12 per $1000 (Minimum $1200); Industrial / Commercial Construction $14 per $1000 (Minimum $1500).
