If your property is located within the Heritage Conservation District (HCD), it has been assigned a ranking based on its architectural heritage value. You can find your building's ranking on the map in the Stewardship Guide to the Downtown Perth Heritage Conservation District (page 4) and review the permit requirements on page 16. In general, heritage permits are required for exterior work, particularly for properties with their own designation and bylaw. For major projects such as new buildings, additions, or exterior conversions, permits are always necessary. Email your plans to us, and our team will review them alongside the relevant bylaw to guide you through the next steps. Other projects that may require a permit include altering windows, doors, shutters, decorative trim, porches, or roofing materials. If you're unsure whether a heritage permit is needed, reach out, and we'll confirm it for you.
