# **2026 Solid Waste and Recycling Information**
### 2026 Solid Waste and Recycling Calendar to December 31, 2026
* Solid waste and recycling pick up takes place on Wednesdays
* When a holiday falls on a Wednesday, check the above calendar for that week's pick up day
* Material must be **must be curbside by 7:00 a.m.**
* Pick-up times may vary due to weather, equipment issues, route changes, etc.
* **Westport Garbage Tags** are $2.50/ea and available for purchase at Kudrinko's Country Grocer, Lower Mountain Mercantile, Westport Home Hardware, Herlehy Home Building Centre and Town Hall
* Garbage Bag Tags are to be put on a clear garbage bag
* **Westport Small Garbage Bags** are **$15.00/10 pack** and available at Town Hall only
* Expired medications should be returned to the pharmacy
* **NEVER** put sharps(needles)/glass/knives in with garbage as they can cause injury to handlers
* Material found to be non-compliant will be left at the curb with a sticker identifying the reason
* 2026 Yard Waste Pick-up Day is May 21 & 22, 2026 and November 5 & 6, 2026 (Paper leaf bags)
**Portland Transfer Station (PTS)** is located at 4427H Old Kingston Road, Portland
* PTS is available for disposal of garbage/brush with a dispoal fee that is based on weight
* PTS hours are Wednesday & Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
* Current disposal rate is $222/ton for garbage and $35/ton for brush with a minimum $10 charge per visit
* Scrap metal, electronics and tires (clean/off the rim) are free
* Payment can be made by debit, credit and cash
* Recycling **is not** accepted at the PTS
