IMPORTANCE NOTICE
Re: Sewer & Water Rate Adjustments
The Island Regulatory and Review Commission (IRAC)has approved increases to the
Borden-Carleton Sewer and Water Rates effective July 1, 2024.
These changes are necessary to address substantial operating deficits caused by
rising costs and updated regulations over the past thirteen years since the last rate
adjustment.
To minimize the impact on households, the increases will be phased in over three
years:
e July 1, 2024: A 25% increase.
e April 1, 2025: An additional 5% increase.
e April 1, 2026: A further 5% increase.
For unmetered services, the current quarterly rate of $252.36 (combined sewer and
water) will increase to $264.96 as of April 1, 2026.
The Town of Borden-Carleton understands the challenges this adjustment may pose
for households. However, these steps are essential to ensure the Utilities’ financial
viability and their ability to continue providing safe and potable drinking water, as well
as effective sewage treatment for the community.
