# Water, Sewer, UPAR, Garbage & Recycling Rates
## Utility Rates for North Battleford
Residents and businesses pay for water, sewer, recycling, garbage, and UPAR services. All rates, fees, and service charges are approved by City Council. These rates determine the cost of each service and help you plan your monthly budget.
### Water rates

Each property pays a base fee based on the size of its water meter. The water charge on the bill reflects the volume of water used, as measured by the meter. This fee covers the cost of delivering water to homes, including operation and maintenance of the water meter, water tower, pumping stations, reservoirs, drinking-water treatment plants, and the distribution system. You can sign up for our Smart Water Meter Portal to track daily, weekly, and monthly consumption, monitor seasonal usage changes, and receive leak notifications.

### Sewer rates

Each property pays a base fee based on the size of its water meter. The sewer charge on the bill is calculated from the amount of water used, since most of that water becomes sewage. Revenue funds the maintenance and cleaning of the sewer collection system and pump stations, operation of the wastewater-treatment plant, and treatment of sewage to meet environmental standards before discharge.

* After-hours call flat rate: $450 for the first 3 hours plus additional costs.

### Garbage rates

You are charged for each bin you put out. The revenue is used to pay for the collection, landfill disposal, and operation and maintenance of the waste management facility.
* The following rate shall be charged for the regular scheduled collection and removal of residential household waste: $12.64/month/roll-out cart
### Recycling rates

Charges are based on the number of recycling bins placed out for collection. Revenue funds collection, processing, and transportation of recycled material.
* The following rate shall be charged for the regular scheduled collection and removal of residential recyclable materials: $7.95/month/roll-out cart
### Underground Pipe & Asphalt Replacement (UPAR) Levy

Each year, City Council approves infrastructure projects funded by utility rates and a portion of property-owner taxes collected through the UPAR levy.
* That a base tax shall be levied in the amount of $5.31 per frontage measurement assigned to each property, whether it be actual frontage or an equivalent frontage value for the 2026 year.
